Bimetal Thermostat Ceramics

Most commonly used thermostats in household appliances are bimetal thermostats, which are composed of two or several layers of metal sheets with different thermal expansion coefficients. They can directly convert thermal energy into mechanical energy to connect and disconnect circuits. Because the bimetal thermostat has more accurate temperature control, excellent electrical performance, simple production and low price, it is widely used in small household appliances, motors and rectifier equipment.

The bimetal thermostat works through a bimetal piece. When the bimetal piece is heated or cooled, it will deform and shift, causing the contacts to clutch to achieve the purpose of connecting and disconnecting the circuit and controlling the temperature.
When choosing a thermostat, we need to consider different application scenarios. For example, different thermostats are used in low-temperature environments and high-temperature environments. Ceramic thermostats are generally used in high temperature environments and have strong resistance to high temperatures. Therefore, when the ambient temperature of the equipment is high, it is recommended to use ceramic thermostats, which are commonly used in fire-fighting equipment.

Take the jump thermostat as an example. The jump thermostat is a new type of bimetal thermostat. Its protection temperature can reach 280℃. However, it should be noted that although ceramic thermostat can withstand high temperatures, but it is best not to be placed in an environment exceeding 300℃. Too high a temperature may cause the internal chip to lose its elasticity due to excessive temperature, causing the temperature control switch to fail.
